Standard 1.1
Standard 1 - Visionary Leadership
Standard 1.1- For Standard 1.1 I chose to use my technology vision statement for my artifact. This document was created with the use of my school’s existing vision statement. My school’s statement was very vague but mentioned technology, and its use in the 21st century. I added more to the statement by breaking it down to what is expected of the school, teachers, and students with the technology that we our system has purchased. This document was created to help my school facilitate technology to our teachers and students. With this vision our school can properly develop professional development sessions to help our teachers better understand how to engage our students properly. This statement also helps guide our teachers with the proper implementation of technology in the classroom for our student body. This statement was interesting to create because I felt I was starting from scratch. While our school mentioned technology in its system vision statement there was no vision statement devoted to technology. I was able to research other school technology visions through our class, and come up with one which I felt was proper for our school at this time. I used the help of my principal to determine where our school was headed technologically and what needed to be done to make this transition smooth and effectively for teachers and students. I feel that she was my greatest asset in the creation of this document, because she had the most knowledge about what funds were available and what our school was receiving. The only thing I would change about the creation of this statement is that I would not only use the principal but the system IT staff to aid in my research of what was going into my school and how the infrastructure would be able to handle this change. The IT input would be helpful to make sure the implementation of the vision was smooth and no problems would occur. After developing the vision statement I was able share this with my principal and staff and receive valuable feedback about its effectiveness. I believe that faculty development had been the most important aspect of this document. Since I created this statement our professional development sessions each Wednesday have been technology rich. Rather than introduce new technologies, teachers have been more hands on with the technology available to them in the school. More and more teachers have become interested in expanding their technology know how. Most teachers have acknowledged that student engagement has risen due to more technology in the classroom. Along with engagement, teachers have also noticed better understanding of material, which has led to better grades. Teacher surveys have been the best way to assess student achievement, but I am looking into our student intervention teams, to see whether it has worked with at-risk students. This process is still on-going because I teams meet quarterly, and these students come and go from the team.
