Standard 6.2
Throughout the Instructional Technology Master’s program at Kennesaw State University, students have been tasked with completing reflections for each of the courses needed to complete the program. The reflections were to step back after the class was finished and talk about what we liked, did not like, or felt we could have done better. All of the reflections I completed on the Weebly blog were positive, because all or most of the material was new. I could always see the functionality of what was being taught and then try to apply to my own classroom. The Weebly blog has served as a continuous account of my journey through the Master’s program and shows my maturation with technology. This blog accounts for over a year and half of course work.
Reflections from the course work consist of information from not only technology classes but data and gifted education as well. Each class detailed information that would help to bridge to the next course. The blog is the detail that not only did you take the course but that you actually took something that you could use in the course. Along with reflections on professional growth and practice, one of our courses had us blog our course assignments on certain readings a technologies. With the new technology the term awareness comes to mind from some of these assignments. The blog served as a place to give product review and educated opinion. One of the opinions we were tasked with blogging about was internet safety. We were to respond to articles outlined for us about internet safety in schools and then given sites to help share this with our students. With the changing world around us this was a great topic that was chronicled in our Weebly blog. From these reflections students and teachers will be able to see the professional growth the candidates show throughout the program.
Over the last few years, I have learned the importance of blogs not just in the classroom but for personal use as well. The blog can serve as so many things in your classroom. I have currently over the last year been using a blog in my classroom as a discussion board. By doing the blog personally it has helped me be able to model its use to my students. The blog is really functional and I like that ability to mold it to your class style. I think if I could do something different about the blogging process I would spend more time writing it like a traditional blog. I feel like I wrote them just as reflections, but not towards an audience. I think that the blog should be written with a group of people in mind. Here I think that the group of people should be future educators in the program. These blogs can give future candidates details about what to expect and how to handle certain situations. Overall I have enjoyed the blogging process and after this Master’s program plan to begin a blog of my own for my classroom and for my hobbies.
