Standard 1.2
Standard 1.2- For standard 1.2 I feel that my technology plan fits the description of strategic planning best. In this plan for Moody High School for which I state my vision for Moody High School, the current reality, and my action plan to support my vision. I used this presentation to give my principal and strategic team of teachers to give an overview of the how we need and already use technology. For the creation of this plan I had to create and give a survey to our staff and gauge what was being used and how effective it was in their classroom. After surveys were done, we had to inventory what we had in the school and check our infrastructure to see what could actually be handled. With all of this information our current reality was terribly lacking for the small vision that our system has put in place. After the reality set in I got to work with my system technology integration person to see what was coming down the road, and how the system could chip in to meet the goals we wanted to execute. To my chagrin our system had purchased a 2:1 ratio for laptops in our school. This was exciting and gave me the foundation of my vision and action plan for this presentation. Development is a key component for technology coaches to be able to implement which I point out that Moody does well, because of our weekly professional development. This sets our school apart from others and gives myself and others the ability to make sure the facilitation and implementation of this plan is effective. After completing this project I found myself in an awkward situation because I had done a good bit of work to get this done, and I am not even the facilitator of technology at my school. This presentation showed my principal how proactive I am, and gave her confidence that I could get the job done in the future. I also learned that our system and school is very low on funds, which hurts some of the plans that I may have had and wanted to implement. The infrastructure at Moody is terrible and is something that I am still working on today. This is a big negative in our current situation with all of the laptops that are in use most days. If I had it to do over again, the one thing that I would change is I would not in essence call out our current technology coordinator. In my presentation I said that our current director was useless. Since then, while I still feel he could do more, a lot of the problems we have in the technology department are not his fault. He could definitely be more proactive, but I could have been more professional in going about bringing this to the forefront. Since the creation of this presentation I have seen the vision for our school turn its focus to the 21st learner. This presentation, and the efforts of our board has helped create a more engaging atmosphere for our students. Students around the school are using laptops for effective lessons created by a more informed staff of teachers. The long term effects are yet to be seen, but I can honestly state that the future looks bright at Moody High School. Our commitment to technology for our teachers and students is helping to create a better learning environment.
